TA Associates Reflects on the Life of Founder Peter Brooke

TA Associates’ founder, Peter Brooke, was one of the great visionaries in venture capital and private equity. Peter was a true believer in the American ideals of entrepreneurship and capitalism. Keenly aware of the direct link between economic development and human progress, Peter founded TA in 1968 not necessarily to make money, but to “do something that might benefit the local economy first, and then the global economy.” He was instrumental in those early, formative years, laying the organizational and cultural foundation for the thriving firm that TA has become today. Peter would do the same with Advent International, which he founded in 1984.

A true pioneer in the private equity industry, Peter touched the lives of many, including many of us at TA. We will remember him as a person of action, driven by a passion for working with management teams to build businesses and better the lives of others. We will remember him as deeply devoted to his family, colleagues and friends. And we will remember him as a man of intelligence and grace, and despite his remarkable achievements, of true humility, unfailingly thoughtful and kind. We are confident that Peter’s legacy will endure.
